IMMEDIATE OPENING!

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Food Services, the Food Services Worker is a member of the Food Services team that provides meals, customer service, and a clean and cheerful environment for students and staff.

This temporary full-time position is non-exempt and not benefit-eligible and runs June 24 - July 31, 2024. The pay rate is $23 per hour. Some nights and weekends may be needed for special events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares salad bar. This includes spooning pre-made products into serving containers, peeling hard-boiled eggs, preparing salads, and peeling and cutting of fruits and vegetables.
  • Prepares certain items for catering events, such as fruit trays, vegetable trays, dips, and cookies/pastries, and helps with set up when requested by the Director.
  • Operates cash registers, scans students/staff cards for purchases, and accurately rings up items.
  • Serves food from the hotline, assists customers, answers questions, and retrieves requested items.
  • Stock items in the serving area. Prior to serving times, stock paper products, snack items, dairy products, beverages, and other items that need to be replenished.
  • Sets up and maintains serving areas. Posts the day’s menu with prices. At predetermined times, sets up the salad bar and puts out condiments, serving utensils, breads, and desserts. Monitors serving areas and refills as needed. Keep the area neat and clean as needed.
  • Cleans work areas and serving areas as needed. Periodically washes carts, sinks, shelves, refrigerator doors, and sides. At the end of the day, clean the salad bar, steam table, coffee dispensers, and all serving areas.
  • Assists in washing pots, pans, salad bar inserts, utensils, and other items used in day-to-day operations.
  • Assists with catering as needed, such as setting up trays of pastries, cookies, vegetables, dips, fruits, etc. Makes coffee and prepares sandwiches, salads, and other food items. Gathers paper products, condiments, and other items as needed. Delivers and/or sets up food and beverages within the building as needed. Catering events may take place in the evening or on weekends.
  • Follows closing procedures. Lock cash register, lock refrigerators, and close windows.
  • Always follow allergy awareness policies. Adhere to all rules designed to protect students and staff with food allergies and sensitivities. Be knowledgeable about all ingredients in menu items and food products and be ready to advise customers. Follow all safe food handling practices to prevent cross-contact of allergens.
  • Adhere to all kosher dietary laws. Non-kosher food or any meat is not allowed in the kitchen. Only use food products and cooking tools/knives supplied by Gann. Qualifications


WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands include dexterity for kitchen utensils and equipment operation, including, but not limited to, fryers, ovens, knives, and walk-in freezers. Stooping, bending, lifting supplies, and standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the shift. The position also requires the cook to sit and stoop a 1/3 of the time. Ability to hear, talk, taste, and smell. Lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, as needed. Exposure to heat while cooking. Moderate noise.
